Floods in Yemen Displace Over 12,000 Families in Marib

Local authorities reported on Sunday that sudden and severe floods have displaced over 12,000 families in Marib, central Yemen, since early August.
The Executive Unit for the Management of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) stated that seven schools and three hospitals were also destroyed, with 15 other schools affected.
According to the statement, eight displaced individuals, including four women and a child, were killed, and 34 others were injured due to the floods.
Yemeni authorities had previously reported that around 7,000 families were affected by the floods, but this number has since increased.
Lisa Dutton, Head of the Funding and Partnerships Section at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), stated that the number of flood-related deaths in Yemen this year has reached 98, with 600 others injured.
Yemen’s severely weak infrastructure exacerbates the impact of floods and worsens the plight of a population already suffering from fragile basic services.
